The Masterophase

We offer an Ophase program specifically for Master students at the computer science department.

We will be showing you the city, the TU Darmstadt and what studying at the department of Computer Science looks like. We will also be covering topics like cultural differences in Germany and common tasks like registration at the city council.

It is not officially required to participate in the orientation week, but we very strongly recommend doing so. Especially the talk by the student advisory service is important (even if you previously studied at TU Darmstadt), since you will get all necessary information related to exams, lectures and registrations there.

Am I In The Right Place?

This Master Ophase is meant for students from these masters at the TU Darmstadt:

  • Master of Science Informatik
  • Master of Science Autonome Systeme
  • Master of Science Distributed Software Systems
  • Master of Science IT-Sicherheit
  • Master of Science Internet und Web-basierte Systeme
  • Master of Science Visual Computing

As rough orientation, you find the timetable from last winter here, we will replace it as soon as the timetable for the coming Ophase is available.

D120 Breakfast Television:

A relaxed start into the day. Each day some people will have breakfast and tell you about university life, Darmstadt, and almost everything you want to know. The topics will vary from day to day – just show up to check it out, and ask all your questions.

How do I find help?

You may always need help during your studies – but how to find the best addressant? We'll give a short overview over the most important institutions. Luckily, there are many helpful places.

Student Advisory Lecture:

The probably most important talk in the Ophase. You'll learn everything about your studies – directly from the responsible department.

Panel:

Advanced students tell stories from their studies and answer to your questions – a great possibility to get insider tips.

Professor Interviews:
Short interviews with some Computer Science professors.
GonMa:

As offline games can't be done, we'll have to use online games: You'll get a large selection of online games and even a pubquiz. A good possibility to get to know your mates.

Corona-specific Infomration:

Information about the effects of the Corona virus on your studies – and the differences to the "normal" times.

Account Activation:

The first essential steps for your studies: account activation. You'll learn what accounts you have and what you need them for, and how to use them.

VPN/SSH/Eduroam:

You'll learn how to get access to the internet at TU Darmstadt and – even more important right now – how to connect to the university network from a remote location. With the remote connection, you can use special software remotely on university computers and get access to a variety of digital literature from the ULB (library).

City Tour:

A city tour showing the most important locations in Darmstadt. The tour is a recorded bicycle ride with oral explanations.

TUCaN/Moodle:

The most important IT systems you'll need. We give a short introduction for both, so you'll know how to use them later.

Final:
The Ophase isn't quite over yet; the organizers still want to say goodbye to you.
Doctorate - why (not)?:
Another panel, this time students intending to pursue a doctorate or thos already working on it (junior and senior). We talk about how we came to this decision, what experiences we made, and answer all your questions.
Party:

An online party – yeah, that's possible!
