To your Ophase and in your Studies

Here you will (currently) find information about the summer Ophase of 2021. More information on the winter Ophase will be available soon.
Our orientation week, called Ophase for short, happens in the week before lectures begin each semester, and is directed at new students. During the week, we will introduce you and many other freshmen to our university and study program. You will learn a lot about your computer science program, the organization at our university, and life on campus/in Darmstadt. That way, once lectures begin, you will know where to go at university to learn - and where to go outside of lectures to experience new things.

Greetings from the Computer Science Student Council (Fachschaft)
The Fachschaft of Computer Science welcomes you to the beginning of your studies!
You will probably already have read and heard it in several places, and you will not be spared at this point: Welcome to your studies, welcome to the Technische Universität Darmstadt, welcome to the beginning of a new phase of your life!
A lot of things will be new for you, because at the university things are different than at school, during an apprenticeship or whatever job you were doing before (or even just compared to studying at another university). But do not despair, because if one thing cannot happen to you here, it is that you will be on your own. At the university, and especially at the Department of Computer Science, there are plenty of opportunities to get help with all your questions and problems, be it the ophase, where you can learn how to make your studies meaningful, or one of the mentoring systems, where you get an experienced contact person for the first year of your studies. Last but not least, we - the Fachschaft Informatik - are always there for you and try to help you with words and deeds.
We hope that you will find many friends during your studies who are as motivated as you are and with whom you get along well. And try to remember that studying is more than just learning: it is a time in life that you should enjoy - and we wish you all the best.

Greetings from the Dean
Greetings from the Chair for Student Affairs
to the Winter Semester 2020/21
Dear students of the Department of Computer Science,
the COVID-19 pandemic has changed many things in our lives. The start of your studies at the TU Darmstadt is no exception and has exciting challenges in store for students, lecturers and employees.
In the past few weeks, we have been able to gain experience in digital teaching and developed new teaching and learning concepts. The winter semester will again be digital and the number of classroom lectures will be reduced to a minimum.
We know that much of what constitutes a course of study suffers as a result. But we should make the most of this time and give the new and unusual a chance. As a faculty, we do our best to make studying exciting and instructive for you as a student under the difficult circumstances.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to the students who will begin their studies in the winter semester 2020/21. I wish you a good start to your studies and all the best for this new phase of your life.
Prof. Dr. Michael Waidner
